The weather in Athens in September tends to be mild warm and sunny for the most part of the day. Temperatures in Athens can drop slightly during the evening hours.

Since September is the first month of Autumn, the changes in nature can been seen right from the start. The leaves change colours usually towards yellow and orange, and the further north you travel, you can see many maple leaf trees, that change their leaves towards red shades.

The weather in Athens in September is very comfortable for traveling by foot or by automobile, because the air is cooler, and the heat waves of previous summer months, no longer exist. When visiting the beach, keep in mind that the sun during this month, does not beam as strongly, and sun burns are not that common, unless your skin colors are very fair.

There are great beaches in Athens and the weather in September is perfect for sunbathing and swimming in the clear waters.
  • You might want to pack, a windbreaker jacket, in case you travel to the more northern areas in Greece, just in case it rains. Keep in mind that the greenhouse effect, has taken its toll where the weather in Greece is concerned, and since this country has always had a Mediterranean climate, now things have changed.
    Tropical showers are much more common, and only last for about 15 to 20 minutes. This is great for the health of the lush vegetation, which exists in the mountain areas.

  • September is grape harvest month in Greece, so keep in mind that if you take a visit to the Spata area, you can see fantastic wineries, and and wine groves. One of these is Kokotos wineries and groves.
  • Just about an hour and a half from Athens, you can visit the town of Nemea, which is one of the most famous areas, for wine orchards, and taste the exquisite “nectar of the Gods”.
  • The island of Santorini, has an award winning reputation, for its wineries and orchards, because of the weather and location of the groves, that are situated on high hills which later descend.
  • The city of Athens is very well known for its friendly people, and cosmopolitan shops, and hotels. Have your coffee at the Grand Bretagne hotel downtown. Luxurious service, and prices prevail, if elegance and a “Casablanca” atmosphere is for you.
  • Many cafes and side streets can be found at Plaka. Here you are close to ancient ruins as well as being able to sip your “frapuccino” or enjoy a Greek night in a restaurant in Plaka.
  • Visit the Ledra Marriott Hotel and dine at the Kona Kai restaurant. Thai and Philippine delicacies here will entrance you.
  • Another great idea is to go the the Soho restaurant in Athens, located at the Keramikos station at Psyrri. Here you will see fabulous live music entertainment, and great drinks on Thursdays.Very good prices are in store here, not to mention the tantalizing of your palate.
  • Visit the Archaeological Museum of the Acropolis, and take a step back to the ancient times of this great city of Athens.
  • Visit the Parthenon, and you will be in awe when in front of the beauty and architecture of this enormous temple.
  • The weather in Athens in September is very mild and enables travelers, to see many archaeological sites, located in the downtown area, not to mention great shopping opportunities, such as the stores at Monastiraki. Here you can find great bargains, for antique furniture, and anything else you can imagine.
  • Another fine restaurant with reasonable prices is “Mamacas”.  Situated downtown, makes it easy to and from your hotel, and keep in mind the good music, and great food.
