Relax at the Lagonissi Beach in Athens
If you are in Athens in summer or spring and temperatures are already climbing dangerously, you should opt for a nice swim at the numerous beaches in Athens, not far from the city center. Lagonissi beach is one of the most famous and friendliest to the visitor, since it’s perfectly organized and beautiful.
If you decide to take the tour to Cape Sounion, you will definitely pass by Lagonissi, which is located almost 15km away from Sounion, and 40km away from downtown Athens. However, you should not let distances discourage you, because the road to Lagonissi (and Sounion) is the seaside avenue that starts from the city of Athens and leads to the southern suburbs.
After all, you have the chance to hire Athens taxi and drive there in 30-40mins, while enjoying the lovely views to the sea, passing by the nicely appointed south parts of the city.
If you decide to visit Lagonissi beach, you should probably consider a weekday, when bathers are less and the beach is much quieter. You will have the chance to rent an umbrella and sunchairs, or even sit on the warm sand as much as you like.
The beach is close to the main village of Lagonissi, just a few meters from shops, restaurants and bars. There is also a bar and canteen close to the beach for refreshments, soft drinks and cold snacks that can make your stay at the beach even more comfortable all day long!
